First off, Bruski’s is my kind of place. Pairing burgers and beer is such a natural coupling, but doing it well takes a certain amount of skill. I’m happy to report that those skills on on display at Bruski’s.
They have 24 beers on draft, a fantastic selection from the San Diego scene as well as some of our craft beer neighbors from across the country. IPA’s, ambers, porters, belgians, you pick your style and they will have a beer for you. The bottle selection is also quite good as well. You will be very hard pressed to not find something good to drink here. Tasters are also available so you can make a sound choice
On this particular night I stopped by last week, I started with my personal favorite from Ballast Point – Sculpin. It’s a big hoppy IPA that balances its unique flavors perfectly. It’s pretty much the perfect beer to me. It has a 7.0% alcohol volume so tread lighty if you are on an empty stomach cause it will sneek up on you. Simply sensational!
My second beer of the evening, and at this point I was joined by friends who helped make sure I wasn’t the sad lonely guy at the bar, was from Port Brewing, the double IPA called Mongo. I’m not gonna lie, Mongo is straight up fantastic. Bold and hoppy but with a sweet finish, Mongo will become your new best friend. With an ABV of 8.5% you know he’s not messing around. The only real downer is that it’s poured in a half-pint glass. That can be overlooked due to its sheer awesomeness.
As for the food, I have only had the burgers and they are good. They won’t blow you away with anything crazy, but it’s a solid dependable burger with a nice selection of choices to customize with. The menu also has appetizers, salads, sandwiches and paninis plus dessert and a kids menu. There is also a wine list for when you want to feel fancy.
The noise level is good. TV’s on the walls but if you don’t care about the game they won’t hinder you from enjoying yourself there. A good atmosphere and friendly staff. Put that with a great selection of beers and you have a customer who will be back.
I hope they still have Mongo on draft.
